Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., until Election Day on August 17, all Monterey County poll voters in the 15th Senate District can vote early at the County Clerk's office in Salinas. Early voting is a convenient alternative to traditional poll voting on election day, which may include lines during peak hours.
Voters may request a ballot at the counter at the Clerk's Office—no prior arrangements are necessary. New voters must register to vote by August 2. Existing registered voters can request an absentee ballot until August 10. Absentee ballots can be dropped of at any city hall save Salinas all the way up to Friday, August 13th. Absentee ballots can also be returned directly to the Monterey County Election Department, as well as at any polling location on Election Day.
Use of the early voting option may boost turnout in the Special Election in the 15th Senate District. Turnout in Santa Cruz County for the primary, held June 22, was just 31.8% according to the Secretary of State.
