WII Games help stroke victims according to a new study

Posted: Updated:

Sword fighting, playing ping pong, and even rowing a boat- all virtual reality games on Nintendo's WII system.  And all could be good activities for stroke patients.

A new study by the Stroke Outcomes Research Center shows virtual reality gaming systems are a safe and feasible strategy to improve motor functions after a stroke.

The two week study focused on arm movement.  It found patients playing WII games could move their arms faster and with better extension than stroke victims that didn't play.

The study also found there are no adverse effects reflecting safety. However, there was one side effect reported: nausea and dizziness.

The study didn't find any major side effects from playing WII games, but some patients did suffer from nausea and dizziness.
