Al Gore and Jeb Bush to Speak at Panneta Institute

MONTEREY, Calif- The speakers for the 2010 Panetta Institute Lecture Series have been announced.

Among those attending will be Al Gore, Jeb Bush, James Carville, Harvey Pitt, Robert Reich, James Rubin, and Frances Townsend.

This year's theme is The Second Decade (2010-2020): What's Next for America? Each of these events will begin at 7:00 p.m. The first three lectures will be held at the Monterey Conference Center in the Steinbeck Forum. The final lecture will be held at the Golden State Theater.

Each program will be broadcast live in the tri-county area and southern Santa Clara County by Comcast and other cable networks. PBS affiliate KQED will broadcast the lectures north through the San Francisco Bay Area and east through parts of the greater Sacramento area and PBS affiliate KTEH will broadcast the program in Santa Cruz County. C-SPAN is also invited to broadcast these lectures nationally.

The lectures are also broadcast live on public radio and available for viewing via live web-streaming at www.panettainstitute.org/lecture_series/lecture_webcast.htm.

Monday, March 1, 2010:

Our Economy: How Can Recession Become Recovery? with Harvey Pitt, former chairman of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, and Robert Reich, former United States secretary of labor, moderated by Ron Insana, senior analyst and commentator for CNBC.

Monday, March, 22, 2010:

Our Foreign Policy: Who Will Lead the World? with James Rubin, former assistant secretary of state and chief spokesman for the State Department, and Frances Townsend, former White House assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, moderated by Aaron Brown, anchor of PBS Wide Angle.

Monday, April 26, 2010:

Our Politics: Does Bipartisanship Have a Future? with Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida, and James Carville, former presidential advisor and political consultant, moderated by Mara Liasson, national political correspondent for National Public Radio.

Monday, May 17, 2010: (date tentative)

Our Environment: Can We Save the Planet that Sustains Us? with Al Gore, former vice president and Noble Peace Prize winner, moderated by Frank Sesno, director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at the George Washington University.
