
KION SOUND OFF: Do you think that the student protestors should pay for the clean up of Kerr Hall?
Santa Cruz, Calif.- The 70 students who were barricaded in Kerr Hall are gone, but they left the administration building a mess. "It's a little disappointing and depressing to look at tax payer approved property like this that has really been trashed," said Barry Schiller the Assistant Vice Chancellor.
Chiller said the furniture that was used to block the doors is damaged. There's torn cables and appliances and loads of garbage. " Its normal wear and tear issues that occur, you have three day long occupation you don't have the underpaid janitorial staff, said Don Kingsbury a UCSC student.
In addition to leaving a sloppy building, Kingsbury said student left scared. " When hundreds of men with shields and buttons march tor wards you in the day break its cinematic, its wrenching, said Kingsbury." The police acted with tremendous restrain there were no fights," said Schiller.
An anthropology professor was hurt, he fell from the second floor railing. "He though he had the opportunity to climb over a railing and jumped down at this point as police kept on pressuring he fell off the rail," said Kingsburry. "Got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time but nobody intended to push anybody," said Schiller.
The price for the damage is unknown at this time. It will take about a week to completely clean the building.
