Salinas's library's celebrate 100 year of survival in the community and also look into the future.
"The library is a sacrade place for knowledge that is open for everybody no matter what the color of your skin or what your literacy level is," said Librarian Maria Roddy.
Because of the tireless effort and big vision of Salinas residents back in 1909, librarian Maria Roddy and Salinas residents are now enjoying these books at Cesar Chavez library 100 years later.
"It's a great thing for families, is a way for people to travel even though they don't have the money because they can go anywhere," said one local Salinas resident.
Many decided to be part of history today, by celebrating Salinas public library's 100 the birthday bash. On this special day letters of the future where placed inside a stainless steel 100 year time capsule.
"Dear people of the future I am from the past 2009 to be exact I think the library will be something you will push a button and the library will come to you," read Ina Moli.
This is Ina's vision on how libraries will be in the future, in 2109 the capsule will be opened and her letter along with symbols that represent us today will be exposed in Salinas's libraries.
No one knows how future libraries will be, but one thing is for sure, future generations will know how Salinas residents were like in 2009.
