NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - A judge viewed portions of a videotape but made no immediate ruling on whether two former North Las Vegas police officers should stand trial on allegations that 1 of them beat a man in custody last December.
A court clerk said Tuesday that North Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Natalie Tyrrell set another hearing for July 14 before ruling whether Mark Alan Miles and James Balelo will stand trial on felony charges.
Both men were fired in January after a video surfaced allegedly showing Miles beating a 31-year-old California man and throwing him to the ground while he was handcuffed inside a casino holding cell.
Both Miles and Balelo, police academy classmates, are accused of falsifying their reports about the incident.
