GONZALES, Calif. - 24-year-old Ian Daw, a teacher at Gonzales High School, was arrested at the school on Thursday around 3:45. He was booked on one count of unlawful sex with a 16 year-old girl and another count of child molestation.
School officials found out about the incident and reported it to police Thursday morning. Police say that through their investigation they believe this incident happened only once and was consentual.
School principal Tom Brownell confirms he is a substitute teacher and started last summer. He also says, he will no longer be working for the district and they have notified parents of this incident.
Monterey County Sheriff's Department says Daw is a King City resident. He's being held at Monterey County Jail with bail set at $15,000. No court date has been set.
If convicted he could face 3 to 5 years in prison.
