Santa Cruz, Calif- Many thought the rain would never come and when it did some residents in Santa Cruz welcomed the rain with open arms especially Glen Schweikert.
"People are going to want to flush their toilets come summer time. We use a lot of water in the area and we need every drop."
Glen Schweikert has lived in the mountains for nine years and says that Sunday's storm is nothing compared to what he has experienced in the past.
"Sometimes it sounds like Niagara Falls outside my window. I'm right on Zayante Creek. It's been really dry the past couple of years and it's about time we get a little rain this year."
While some embraced the wet weather others were reminded of floods and mudslides that plague the Santa Cruz area. Susana Green says she knows the rain is much needed but being trapped in her homes with no power and no way out, due to road closures is a nightmare.
"When you live in an area like where I live there is a lot of mudslides. It's kind of hard so you might be stuck for a long time. Especially when you have to get stuff to eat and if you have babies it's kind of hard."
Residents are also worried about people who forget how to drive on the wet roads. But after long stretches of warm weather Charlene Cece is relieved to see the rain.
"I'm so glad to finally see rain. Remember water will get us through times of no sunshine. Sunshine will not get us through times of no water."
Weather concerns on the Big Sur Coast are keeping firefighters on their toes and they say "they're ready take on whatever Mother Nature has in store"
