Watsonville, Calif-- Traffic officers from across the Central Coast gathered in Watsonville on Tuesday. It's part of a plan to crackdown on aggressive drivers.
13 traffic officers from different jurisdictions met to talk about safety related traffic violations, bicycle/pedestrian violations and aggressive driving.
Officers from Watsonville, Capitola, Santa Cruz and CHP wrote 79 tickets, towed several vehicles and stopped a habitually aggressive driver on Hecker Pass. Police said they also handed out a lot of tickets to bicyclists for riding on the wrong side of the road. They said that's the biggest cause for bicycle/vehicle collisions.
Tuesday's event was part of BADGES (Before Aggressive Drivers Get Everybody Stopped). The program started in 1999. CHP will host a similar event next month.
