MONTEREY, Calif - Thirteen graduate students at the Monterey Institute of International Studies will travel to Sierra Leone this January to conduct field research exploring the challenges of building peace. Sierra Leone, located in West Africa, suffered through a decade of civil war in the 1990s.
On December 6th , the 13 students and their professor, held a fundraising dinner at Bistro 211, 211 Crossroads Boulevard in Carmel with proceeds supporting the group's travel and field research in January 2010.
Upon their return from Sierra Leone, the students plan to share their experiences and findings with the Monterey Peninsula community through various presentations and the production of a documentary.
