GILROY, Calif- The City of Gilroy is trying to stop the spread of the flu virus but you may be surprised to see who they are vaccinating.
The homeless in Gilroy have limited access to health care but Friday morning they were happy to get seasonal flu shots. The Gardner Family Health Network brought its Mobile Health Center to the homeless in Gilroy and gave them the flu shots.
Gilroy Police officers also reached out to the homeless by talking to them and educating them about the flu.
Out of the 50 homeless that live in Bamboo Village only 15 decided to get the flu shot. Many were sick, so could not get the shot, and some just did not want to get help.
For those who are struggling financially or are on the streets they can get free access to health care at St. Joseph family Center in downtown Gilroy.
