KCBA - Monterey, Salinas, Santa Cruz - News Weather-4 Year-Old Ejected in Highway 101 Accident

CHUALAR, Calif- CHP was on the scene of a vehicle rollover Thursday morning.
The accident happened around 9:15 a.m. on Highway 101 just North of Chualar River Road. Luz Acosta was distracted and allowed her Dodge Durango to drift into the center divide. While attempting to correct the vehicle she lost control and the Durango traveled across the southbound lanes of traffic and rolled several times.
Her 4 year-old daughter sitting in the back seat was ejected from the vehicle. CHP says that there was a car seat in the vehicle, but at this time they do not know if it was used properly.
The driver of the vehicle was transported by ground ambulance to Natividad Medical Center and the child by Calstar medical helicopter to Valley Medical Center in Santa Clara.
The southbound lanes of the highway were closed to allow the helicopter to land which caused traffic to be backed up for several miles.
