One Person Dies in Watsonville House Fire

WATSONVILLE, Calif- Early Friday around 1:15 a.m. Watsonville firefighters responded to a house fire at 423 Hill Avenue. When firefighters arrived they discovered two women had been living inside the home, one was able to escape out the front door. The other woman was still inside, firefighters then had to conduct a search and rescue operation. They found the second woman dead in the back bedroom.

The woman that was able to get out was not injured and is now staying with friends and family.

Firefighters say the fire was mainly in the back part of the home, the whole house was filled with smoke.

 Four fire engines and about 20-25 firefighters responded to the scene.

 Becaurse of the fatality, officials are now investigating this as a crime scene. Right now investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire. The estimated cost of damge is $250,000.
