Holiday Harvest has taken on a new importance this year as families turn to our local food banks in record numbers. Almost 100,000 people are getting food from The Food Bank for Monterey County and Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties every month.
Now, KION-TV, FOX 35 and Telemundo 23 has formed partnerships with Calvary Chapel Monterey Bay, First Presbyterian Church of Salinas, Shoreline Community Church and Twin Lakes Church to expand this year's Holiday Harvest to an unprecedented 5-day food collection event in order to meet this need. Every day during the week of November 16, KION-TV and FOX 35's Central Coast News will be on location from 4-8 p.m. collecting food and cash donations to meet the need in our local communities. Plus, Central Coast News at 5 and 6 will broadcast live on location each night and the stations will air updates from the collection sites throughout the evening. And for viewers who aren't able to make it to a collection site, food bank volunteers will be manning phone banks every night to take secure credit card donations.
Holiday Harvest really will be special this year thanks to the generosity of our local partners. Mark it on your calendar now and be sure to come take part in the fun and joy of helping others.
