SALINAS, Calif.- Sandra and her son Cristian from Salinas enjoy shopping for Halloween, and love trick or treating even more. But with caution because she doesn't know who is giving out the treats. "Going trick a treating a little bit earlier than usual and just keeping him with me and have little flashlights," said Sandra Campos.

Parole agent Wes Ellison said there are 128 registered sex offenders living in Monterey and San Benito counties. Most live outside populated areas. But not all of them. According to Megan's Law's website some live near residential areas, where kids will be trick or treating.

So what do parole agents do to keep kids safe from sex offenders?" Restricted to their homes not allowed to open their door to trick or treaters," said Agent Ellison.

Agent Ellison said they can't leave their house from 5 P.M. to 6 A.M. Agents will monitor their every move with G.P.S. And parole agents from the state's correction department and the Monterey County Sheriff's department are teaming up to check on sex offenders.

If they violate the rules, there are big consequences." Zero tolerance, they will be placed in custody and be returned to prison.
