KING CITY, Calif- In light of the spread of the h1n1 virus it is recommended that schools take extra precautions, but some King City schools say they are unable to meet those requirements.
According to the Assistant Superintendent of the King City Union School District, Rory Livingston, the district had to cut their budget by 20 percent.
"We cut half our custodial force, so our classes are only getting cleaned once a week and trash is getting dumped nightly, but we don't have the man power to come in and wipe down all the surfaces," said Livingston.
So now it is the teachers who are left to pick up the slack and make sure their classrooms are clean. Livingston says the district recommends that teachers and students take their own precautions to help prevent the h1n1 virus.
One of the teachers in the district says that she is not upset about having to clean, but she is upset that the budget crunch has meant teachers are buying their own cleaning supplies.
So far no students in any King City School has come down with h1n1.
