SANTA CRUZ, Calif.-The H1N1 intranasal live, influenza vaccine that took six months to produce will arrive in Santa Cruz County Tuesday said Santa Cruz County health officials.
But they say there won't be enough doses this week for a county than has over 250,000 residents.
Loyd Landes is going to make sure his six year old son Thomas gets his H1N1 vaccine. "My kids are my life I don't take chances with their lives so its seem like a no brainer, said Landes.
The Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency will get 2,400 doses of intranasal live, a nasal spray by tomorrow. "It's in a syringe and it's applied into the nostril both nostrils," said Doctor Poki Namkung.
Namkung add the vaccine is similar to a flu vaccine. "The process is exactly identical so we have no reason to believe there are unexpected safety complications, said Dr. Namkung.
So how effective is it?" For normal healthy people its highly effective 70% to 80%," said Dr. Namkung.
Since there is limited amount, children, pregnant women, and medical workers get access to it first. The health agency expects to receive 40,000 doses by the end of the month.
Dr. Namkungs said there's a delay because there's a big demand and few manufacturers. "Its very limited production there's only five manufacturers four have been licensed," said Dr. Namkung.
