Monterey, Calif- At the Monterey Blues Festival bands were playing on stage while people danced. But while it was a fun event, in the minds of many was the sudden death of Michael Jackson.
Music is the bond that all musicians share. For four decades Eric Bibb has been writing,
playing guitar, and singing the blues following in his father's footsteps.
"Music is a metaphor for life itself. To be actually doing what I love to do for a living it's as good as it gets."
For Bibb when any musician dies it is a time to reflect on his own life and musical journey and how he can avoid their mistakes.
"We always feel a kinship with a fellow musician. It doesn't matter what genre, we're all happy to leave something behind that has touched people, and certainly Michael Jackson did that we salute him."
Blues fans were out and about enjoying the tunes and also remembering the King of Pop.
"It was really sad. It was really shocking to me to see someone who I grew up with listen to his music passed away so soon" says Rachelle Harris.
Some like Rodney Palmer says that Jackson's lyrics foreshadowed his own death.
"His song Gone to Soon best depicted a genius, left probably long before his time. However I think his legacy will live on forever."
