King City Mayor Talks About Shootings

Posted: Updated:

King City, CALIF- Less than 24 hours ago the scene on Beech Street was total chaos. Now the yellow tape is gone and people in King City are trying to deal with Wednesdays horrible tragedy.

Five young men shot, leaving a thirteen year old dead. But could anything have been done to prevent these shootings? " Our officer was around the corner so we couldn't have been any closer you could have had 1,000 officers out last night, things like this happen," said Mayor Jeff Pereira.

King City police have released little detail on their investigation, but the Monterey County Gang Task Force has rolled into town. "Typically when things like this happen there is a chance for retaliation so I think its good to have presence out on the street so they know that we're watching, we're around," said Pereira.

Fear of retaliation has neighbors keeping quiet, afraid they could be the next target. "We don't know if this is even gang related to be honest with you. So we're just waiting and we don't want to have any adverse affects on the investigation. We are just going to wait and see what happens," said Pereira.

So what kind of gang problem does King City have? "It's not any worse than any other city in the valley, or anywhere in the state for that matter," said Pereira. How does a city bounce back from this kind of violence? "What is the game plan for getting through this," said Pereira. How do you do it? Five Shootings, five young men, how do you beat that?" said Reporter Shannon Hogan? " "We roll up our sleeves and get to work," replied Mayor Pereira.
