O’Hare Airport Incident Delay Flights Nationwide

September 26, 2014 10:17 am

CHICAGO—Flights in and out of Chicago’s airports, halted since early Friday morning after a fire broke out in the Federal Aviation Administration’s main Chicago air-traffic control center in suburban Aurora, Ill., slowly started resuming five hours later, the FAA said.

The blaze, now extinguished, apparently was intentionally set by an FAA contract employee, Aurora Police Chief Gregory Thomas said on local TV.

The chief said it wasn’t a terrorist act and that the investigation was being run by the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and local police and fire departments, assisted by the FAA.
