Rio de Janeiro will not host the gala for the Laureus Awards

Rio de Janeiro, Jan 15 (Entravision) .- Rio de Janeiro not will host again the gala of the Laureus Awards, considered the Oscar of the sport, after the regional government terminate the contract that he was bound with the organizers of the event, organizers reported today.

The official gazette of the State of Rio de Janeiro ensures that the breach of contract was “friendly”, information which was also confirmed by the foundation Laureus World Sports Awards in a press release.

The regional Government revealed that will pay the amounts corresponding to the two years that Rio de Janeiro should host the event, although the value of the debt with Laureus was not disclosed.

According to the statement of the foundation, in brief will be announced the plans for the award ceremony of this year, a gala that in previous years housed the cities of Monaco, Lisbon, Estoril (Portugal), Barcelona, St. Petersburg (Russia) and Abu Dhabi.

For its part, Laureus assured in its statement that it will continue “committed” to promote projects to help young people “disadvantaged” of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil through sport.

This is the third largest sporting event with funding from the Government of the state that is canceled in Rio de Janeiro after the abolition of the convention of marketing and business of the Soccerex football tournament and the riding Athina Onassis Horse Show.
